Çeştepe (Discovery Hill), Lighthouse Tower and Tumulus: Located within the scope of Law No. 2565 on Military Restricted Areas and Security Zones, this natural elevation contains the remains of a "lighthouse tower" and a "tumulus." Mentioned in ancient sources, the hill is known as the "Acherusian Mound" in the Argonautica (Epic of the Argonauts) written by the Rhodian poet Apollonius Rhodios.
The work states that the tombs of Idmon, the seer among the Argonauts, and Tiphys, the helmsman of the Argo, are located beneath this elevation. A lighthouse was built on the hill, which gave Karadeniz Ereğli its natural harbor feature, to guide sailors; therefore, the area was once known as "Discovery Hill." Furthermore, due to its windy nature, it was used as a threshing floor during harvest time and was known among the people as "Çeştepe" or "Çeştepesi." The lighthouse tower, exhibiting characteristics of the Hellenistic period, was constructed on a square foundation using cut block stone, rubble stone with thick mortar, and brick.
It is stated that beneath the approximately ten-meter-high structure lies a tumulus, approximately fifty meters long and accessible, built with neatly cut stones.
