Troy National Park - 4;

The Historic National Park, Troy (Truva) (Turkish Troya Tarihi Milli Parkı) is located in the Turkish province of Çanakkale on the west coast of Asia Minor in the historic landscape Troas.

The archaeological site of Troy was an archaeological field since the first excavations in the years 1869/1870 by Heinrich Schliemann under official protection . When the German archaeologist Manfred Korfmann 1988 new research in the area, began soon came to the desire to make the area a nature conservation to prevent an impending destruction of the landscape through land speculation and agriculture. In the efforts to establish a national park Korfmann was also supported by his Turkish colleagues Güvenç Bozkurt , Mehmet Halet Çambel and Kearney . When after 1990 the military withdrew from the region following the collapse of the Soviet Union , the issue took on dramatic forms. The dispute between archaeologists and speculators was carefully monitored , especially in the German press. On 30 September 1996, the area was finally declared by a decision of the Turkish Council of Ministers to the National Historical Park . In December 1998, Troy was added to the UNESCO list of world cultural heritage.
