Istanbul Courthouse
The Istanbul Courthouse consists of 18 interconnected blocks, ranging in height from a minimum of 4 to a maximum of 19 floors. The total enclosed area is 343,000 m².
The courthouse was formed between July 25, 2011 and August 22, 2011, by relocating the Istanbul Courthouse and its annexes (Sirkeci, Gülhane, Levent), Beyoğlu Courthouse, Şişli Courthouse, Fatih Courthouse, Sarıyer Courthouse, and Eyüp Courthouse, which were located in 11 separate buildings, under the name Istanbul Courthouse.
The courthouse includes courtrooms, judges' and prosecutors' offices, offices, service rooms, archive rooms, lawyer's meeting rooms, dining halls, cafeterias, a library, a nursery, a conference hall, a post office, bank branches, a health unit, a police station, and an indoor parking garage. The building incorporates interior gardens and central courtyards to maximize the use of natural light. Facade arrangements have been implemented to allow for natural ventilation, with the addition of openable wings to many spaces. Furthermore, the courthouse features a system where prisoners can enter the courtroom directly from the parking lot, and prosecutors can enter directly from their own offices, preventing congestion at the courthouse entrance and avoiding undesirable situations.
The Courthouse Project utilizes the latest technologies in construction:
• 62,000 square meters of waterproofing
• 185,000 square meters of thermal insulation
• 93 elevators
• 1,450 doors of various sizes for fire exits
• 48 escalators with a total length of 1 km
The courthouse building is a blend of modern and traditional Turkish architecture. While it appears as a modern and technologically advanced building from the outside, it also incorporates elements symbolizing classic Turkish architecture, such as gardens and courtyards.
