The historic Sinop Prison is located within the 4000-year-old Sinop Castle, on a peninsula surrounded by the sea on three sides. Officially converted into a prison in 1887, this structure, with its high stone walls and the harsh waves of the Black Sea, became a center of severe psychological isolation for prisoners, cutting them off from the outside world. For years, it was used as a prison for serious criminals and political prisoners. Due to the near impossibility of escape, it eventually became known as the "Alcatraz of Anatolia".
