In Kilis, all houses have courtyards (havuş) and are built of stone, adobe, and leften (a dirty white building stone extracted from quarries in Kilis and its surroundings). The traditional 'Kilis House' consists of a courtyard, kitchen, rooms, and caves.
The old Kilis settlement is located in the neighborhoods and streets of Hindioğlu Mahallesi, Tekye Mahallesi, Çaylak Mahallesi, Ketenciler Mahallesi, Salih Efendi Sokak, Hacı Ömer Ağa Sokak, Abidin Ağa Caddesi, and Akcurun Caddesi.
The "Neşet Efendi Mansion" (1924/1925), used as the Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism, the building belonging to "YOYAV (Foundation for Aid and Education to the Poor)" (the house where Prof. Dr. Alaiddin YAVAŞÇA was born and raised), and the "Multi-Purpose Community Center-ÇATOM" (this building was built as a mansion in 1850 by Toros Ağa, of Armenian origin, and later served as the Şehit Sakıp Primary School) are also located here.
