The most interesting side of Harran is, the konic domed houses in the shape of cornet, built by the superposition technique. The domed houses, registered as the archeological and urban protected area in 1979, have been kept under protection. In those days, the number of the domes, 960 has been frozen in Harran. The peasantry tells that the chickens lay egg more, certain animals such as horses have become more easy-going, the onions stool more quickly within the domed Harran houses, compatible to the climate of the region, cool during the summer time, and hot during the winter time. An example of these houses had been restorated, gained the function of “Culture House” and introduced to the service of tourism by Harran District Governor, Ibrahim Halil Akşit in 1999.
