Gobekli Hill

It had been detected for the first time in 1693 as an archeological place, during a surface search by Turkish and American scientists. Göbekli Hill is situated over the mountain area close by Örencik Village, at 15 km north east of Şanlıurfa. Owing to the topographic properties and site selection of Göbekli Hill, from the beginning phases of Neolithic Age, in 300 meters diameter and 15 meters height, when it had been recognized for the first time, its current importance could not be understood that, due to the limestone blocks, those are met everywhere of the hill, it was deemed that this place was a graveyard. 4 layers had been brought into light at Göbekli Hill. The 1st layer, at the top, has been the surface stuff over which agriculture is possible, the remaining 3 layers have been dated as Neolithic Age without ostracons.

Up to now, such kind of 4 historical artifacts had been brought into light that, as the result of the geo-magnetic measurements, it is understood that there are at least 20 monumental buildings at  There are various animal figures, consisting mostly from snakes, foxes, wild boars and birds, over some of the obelisks of which heights are up to 5 meters. 

In that age represented at Göbekli Hill, according to the available findings, it is considered that thehuman being had managed through hunting and husbandry, they had not deal with agriculture. In respect of the position of the settlement place, the enormous sized buildings, obelisk in tons of weight and settlement of these obelisks, it is considered that the human beings from Stone Age had acted within a large-scaled organization and a long time-scale. Presently, the date of the III. Layer, that is the earliest layer, has been stated as B.C. 10.000. The main ground at the settlement place could not be reached yet that, as the result of the future dig works, the life at Göbekli Hill shall become clear.
