Located just east of Nevşehir Castle, Kaya Mosque is one of the city's significant historical places of worship that has survived to the present day. It is generally accepted that the initial section of the mosque was carved into the rock in 1715, during the early 18th century. Although historical records indicate that the structure was commissioned by Nevşehirli Damat İbrahim Pasha, there is no inscription on the mosque itself that definitively states the date of its construction.
A comprehensive project carried out in 1955 saw the addition of a new section built from cut stone, featuring a single dome. The mosque's minaret, which has a single balcony, is also constructed of stone.
Situated approximately 70 meters east of Nevşehir Castle, Kaya Mosque is a key element of the historical urban fabric surrounding the castle. The area around the mosque was historically characterized by traditional housing, comprising both rock-carved dwellings and stone structures. Consequently, the building is not merely a place of worship; it stands as a historical landmark bearing traces of the city's transformation from its former name, Muşkara, into the modern city of Nevşehir.
This 360-degree panorama, captured by 360TR in 2011, documents Kaya Mosque and the surrounding urban fabric of that era. Given the changes the area has undergone in the intervening years, these images serve not only as a virtual tour but also as a digital visual archive of Nevşehir as it appeared in 2011.
