The Museum of Anatolian Civilizations, located in Ankara, is one of the world's leading museums showcasing archaeological artifacts from Anatolia. It is situated in the Atpazarı district, on the southeastern edge of the outer wall of Ankara Castle, in two renovated Ottoman buildings.
One of these buildings is the Mahmut Paşa Bedesten (covered market), and the other is the Kurşunlu Han (inn). Initially exhibiting only artifacts from the Hittite period, the museum later expanded to include artifacts from other civilizations, transforming from a Hittite Museum into the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations.
Today, with its unique collections, it ranks among the world's leading museums, exhibiting Anatolian archaeology from the Paleolithic Age to the present day. In 1997, it received the European Museum of the Year Award from the European Museum Forum (affiliated with the Council of Europe) in Lausanne, Switzerland, winning first place among 68 museums. It is currently the only museum in Turkey to have won this award.
